The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) announced on 6 October 2026 a $200,000 monetary penalty against Score Media and Gaming Inc., operator of theScore.Bet, for presenting cash-out offers to a player that were not honoured. The AGCO describes it as the maximum monetary penalty available.
What happened
The case concerns a $1,000 multi-leg parlay placed on 14 March 2025 across NHL, NBA and NCAA basketball games, with a potential payout above $1 million if every selection won. With all but one leg successful, theScore presented a cash-out offer of about $380,000. The player accepted immediately, but the operator rejected the transaction during automated verification after the odds changed. Four minutes later a second offer of almost $100,000 was presented and accepted, and that was not honoured either. The bet settled as a loss and the player received no payout.
The standard breached
The Registrar found that neither offer was achievable as presented. The action cites Standard 4.07 of the Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming, which requires that information given to players before and during play does not mislead them or misrepresent games, including by describing outcomes, prizes or features that are not achievable. AGCO chief executive and Registrar Dr Karin Schnarr said “these expectations are not optional”.
The operator has 15 days to request a hearing before the Licence Appeal Tribunal, an adjudicative body independent of the AGCO. The regulator also notes that its action is separate from any route a player has to resolve an individual dispute; operators remain responsible for handling complaints under Ontario and Canadian law.
Why it matters for Ontario players
This is the fourth penalty against an Ontario iGaming-sector registrant the AGCO has announced since August 2026, after actions against Betty Gaming, Booming Games and NorthStar Gaming. The published enforcement record is one of the things that separates Ontario’s regulated market from unregulated sites, which the AGCO says lack comparable safeguards. Our Ontario iGaming sites page explains how AGCO registration and iGaming Ontario’s operating agreements work for operators serving the province.
