Where Irish regulation stands (checked August 2026)
Ireland is mid-way through the biggest overhaul of its gambling law in a generation. The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI), created by the Gambling Regulation Act 2024, opened licence applications on 9 February 2026, and its first remote betting licences took effect on 1 July 2026 — at the last register check (1 September 2026) it had issued 29 licences to 28 companies, every one of them for betting or betting-intermediary activity. The online casino licence — remote gaming — has not opened: GRAI has said those applications open through 2027 and 2028, so no casino serving Irish players holds an Irish licence today, whatever its name suggests — they are all non-GRAI casinos, and every one operates on an overseas licence such as Malta or Curaçao. The National Gambling Exclusion Register the Act mandates is not live yet either, so self-exclusion still happens site by site.
